Dear St. Charles Parents,

As we approach Memorial Day weekend, we are all ready for a break before we shift into overdrive for the last couple of weeks of school. As we remember those who have served our country, may the Lord grant your family some rest, some time together, and maybe a little time for yard work catch-up this weekend!

Tomorrow, we will be welcoming Bishop Izen to our 8:00 AM Mass. We are very excited to have one of our bishops offer Mass with us at our place. This will be a great way to begin our Friday and Memorial Day weekend! We hope you can join us for the Mass. As a part of a Borromeo Bash auction item, students in grades 2, 3, and 6 get a greet, meet, and treat with Bishop Izen after Mass.

Nonpublic school funding for transportation, counseling, health support, and textbook support is back on the chopping block, or at least the negotiation table. We are still very hopeful that we will be able to maintain these funds, but we need your help once again to contact your legislators. Please click this link to contact our governor and local legislators: Please click this link to contact our governor and local legislators. I’m hoping this is the last time I’ll have to ask you to do this! Thank you for your support!

June 4th is the last day of school for grades 1-7. It will be a half day ending at 11:30 AM, and there will be a tailgate party from 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM. This has become a fun way to socialize at the end of the school year. You can bring your own food or get food from the food truck on site. There will be treats available for kids and adults. The Icy Icy Baby truck closed down, so there will be other treats TBD!

God bless you,

Danny Kieffer

St. Charles School Principal

Lemonade Stand for Charity ~ THANK YOU!!

Thank you so much to all our St. Charles students, families, teachers, and staff who supported our 4th grade Lemonade Stand for Charity!  Glass by glass, dollar by dollar – in 5 short days, we raised over $1200 for River Valley Riders in Afton, MN!  Ms. Cheyl Holt, founder of RVR, met the 4th graders at school today to accept the donation in person.  We are thrilled with what our students could do for others in just one week.  A special shout-out to our parent volunteers who selflessly helped to mix lemonade, set up the stand, supervise selling, and assist with clean-up.  Mrs. Stark, Mrs. Salzbrun, Mrs. Gideo, Mrs. Vonderharr, Mrs. Coppinger, Mrs. Noll, Mrs. Eckert, and Mr. Kieffer – we are beyond grateful for your assistance. We couldn’t have done it without you!  A heartfelt, HUGE thank you to our kitchen coordinator, Mrs. Cozals, for her patience in giving us space to mix and store lemonade in the school’s kitchen!

Rice Bowl Donations

For those students who collected their loose change during Lent to put in their Rice Bowls, $299.49 was raised for Catholic Relief Services!

Summer Tutoring at St. Charles – more tutors added!

Jen Gasik – Is your student struggling with math or reading/spelling concepts? Do you want your student/s to have a weekly “brush up” on skills throughout the summer?  Do you have a small group of student friends who would like to have a summer book club or a 6-8 week introduction to playing the piano? I am available for many fun learning opportunities this summer! Scheduling flexible. Please email jgasik@stchbs.org for more info!

Sheyenne Gehlhausen – I am one of the 4th grade teachers at St. Charles and will be graduating in May with my master’s in reading education from the University of St. Thomas. If you have a student who needs extra math/reading help, or perhaps even enrichment in these areas, I will be available for tutoring sessions at St. Charles this summer, starting in June. Please reach out for scheduling and more information at sgehlhausen@stchbs.org.

Victoria Paine – Including my time here at St. Charles, I have been teaching middle school for over 20 years. I bring the skills of a reading specialist in addition to my regular work with any English subject matter (reading, writing, grammar, spelling). I will tutor students in 4th grade and above. I am available Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during the day. Both short-term help on summer reading projects and long-term goals to improve reading are possible. If you are interested in booking a time slot or would like more information, please contact me at vpaine@stchbs.org.

Jeanne Sharp – I am a licensed middle school math teacher, and I would be available to work with 6th – 8th grade students looking for some math tutoring. I am available on Tuesdays. Please feel free to reach out to me by email at jsharp@stchbs.org.
