Uniform and Dress Code

Why Our Students Wear Uniforms

Uniforms help provide St. Charles School identity. They also instill a sense of pride and confidence in our students and reduce competition regarding clothing, current fads, and expensive name brands.

Uniforms should be neat, clean, and in good condition. Uniforms are available at Donald’s Uniform, Educational Outfitters, or at Lands’ End. If uniform clothing can be found at another store and is exact in color and appearance, it may be substituted.

General Guidelines for Uniform Dress Code

  • Pants, skirts, and shorts must be worn at the waist
  • No jeans, cargo pants, carpenter pants, sweatpants, nylon athletic pants, zip-off pants, capris, crop pants, or knit pants
  • No leggings, stirrups, long underwear, leg warmers, stretch pants, form fitting pants, or oversized pants
  • Shirts must have a collar. Sweatshirt must be navy blue with St. Charles logo
  • No sandals, open-toe, or open-back shoes. No heelys or roller shoes. No boots in the classrooms
  • No non St. Charles brand logos, trim, embroidery, or character decoration

Appearance

Students are expected to arrive at school with good hygiene practices in place. This includes regular bathing, wearing clean uniforms free of holes, and keeping their hair well groomed and neat. This is especially important for students who choose to wear their hair longer. A student’s hair in the front (on the forehead) may not extend below the eyebrows and must be out of their line of vision. Taking care of their personal hygiene helps students to form positive habits, contribute to our learning environment, and communicate that they care for others in the school.

Alterations to Appearance

If a student comes to school with an alteration to their appearance that becomes a distraction to our learning environment they will be required to change the alteration back to a natural appearance. When a student’s appearance becomes a distraction, it is usually connected to the way they conduct themselves after making the alteration. The determination of when an alteration becomes a distraction is up to the faculty and administration.
