Sacraments

Sacramental preparation for Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation are included within the curriculum at St. Charles School.

Sacrament of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion – 2nd grade

Students in 2nd grade receive comprehensive preparation for the reception of both the Sacrament of Reconciliation and First Most Holy Communion.

We use the Image of God textbook as the basic format for our instruction. Students also have supplemental lessons as well as several hands-on opportunities to develop a deeper understanding of their faith and the church. Direct religious instruction and prayer time is given daily. Cross-curricular integration is also done throughout each day. In addition, students attend and participate in, the weekly Mass on Fridays and other Holy Days of Obligation/Feast Days. Our religion curriculum follows, and is taught, in full accord with the Magisterium of the Catholic Church.

We understand and respect that it’s within the family that children first come to the faith. It’s also within the family setting that children will continue to practice that faith and witness as Catholic believers. Weekly Mass attendance is vital to growth in the sacramental life. We strongly encourage families to participate in the Mass, as well as receiving regular Reconciliation. St. Charles also includes the Holy Family Program for our 2nd grade parents. This program is designed to promote and foster a strong faith community and be a support for those who are looking to grow in their own spirituality.

Sacrament of Confirmation – 8th grade

Our 8th grade students prepare for Confirmation throughout their final year at St. Charles. They attend a confirmation retreat in early May at NET Ministries. Students are confirmed at the Basilica of St. Mary in mid-May. The St. Charles parish and school community honor the 8th grade Confirmation candidates at the 10:00 am Mass the Sunday following their Confirmation. The front pews are reserved for the Confirmation candidates, who are asked to renew their Baptismal promises during the Mass.
