Dear St. Charles Parents!

Tomorrow at 2:00 PM, you are invited to join us for the Live Stations of the Cross in the church. Our 8th graders reenact the Stations of the Cross for the rest of the school and the parents each year. This is one of my favorite traditions at St. Charles. We will be following our school Mass protocols for safety during this event.  (Be sure to be on time, as the Stations go quickly once they start.)

We’re within a month of Borromeo Bash Day. Below are a few of the things we need support with:

  • We are in need of silent auction items. Donations can be dropped off between now and April 10th at the school office. We will also have a building basket day on April 11th from 9:00 -11:00 AM in the cafeteria. Join us to put together silent auction baskets!
  • Tickets are still available for urchase through April 17th – see link below.
  • We NEED lots of volunteers: BashVolunteerSignUp
  • The Bash team would like to finalize the Grade Level Parties and the Parent Parties by the end of this week. The homeroom teachers have been communicating about this so far. If you would like to host one of these parties, please contact the Borromeo Bash team at Borromeobash@stchbs.org

I hope that all of you had a fantastic spring break! It is wonderful to have your children back in the bricks for the final trimester of the school year. It was great to have so many parents here for conferences on Tuesday; we have another full lineup tonight! Thank you for putting the time into attending your children’s conferences. We appreciate the opportunity to partner with you in their success.

Tomorrow is the Lenten Day of Renewal. This day is a long-standing tradition at St. Charles. We break from our normal Friday routines for part of the day, or most of the day, to do activities with the other students in in grade level that help us to reflect on our lives and the themes of Lent. One of the Lenten themes we commonly hear about is “suffering.” How can suffering help us? Let’s face it, we live and are accustomed to more comforts than most of the world. When we give something up, we miss it, and we suffer, not much, but we get a taste. We experience what it is like to live without that comfort, and if we do this for a period of time, we become accustomed to life without it. This is how suffering leads to freedom. We free ourselves from the comforts we rely on by giving them up. Giving up our own comforts creates more access to provide for the needs of others, which is our duty as followers of Jesus Christ, and it makes more room for Christ in our hearts. If you have not given anything up for Lent, pick up a little suffering during Holy Week; I promise freedom!

Holy Week is next week, with no school on Good Friday. We also will not have school on Easter Monday and Tuesday. On Tuesday, April 7th, our faculty will be attending the NCEA (National Catholic Educational Association) National Conference in Minneapolis.

God bless you!
