Dear Charger Parents,

I’ve been a bit under the weather this week. Fortunately, we have a great team, and they have the game in hand. Thank you to the many parents who made it out to the rosary procession last Friday. It was a beautiful occasion at a time when prayers are certainly needed in our community, country, and world. Please keep the people in Jamaica, and especially those in the Mustard Seed Project Apostolate of Jerusalem, in your prayers. We have not heard about how things are since Hurricane Melissa came through.

Tomorrow we will be honoring All Saints Day in advance of November 1 with a procession of saints by our 1st graders at Mass. After Mass, they will grace us with a Litany of the Saints song procession throughout the school. This is an important day for our 1st graders, and we hope that you can join us at Mass.

Next week, our 6th graders will be at Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center. This is an awesome trip that our kids look forward to and remember for years after. I have great memories of being a 6th grader at Wolf Ridge. Please keep them in your prayers.

Also, next week is National Vocation Awareness Week. This is a week when we pray for those who are considering vocations, including the priesthood, diaconate, or consecrated life as a brother or sister. St. Charles has been the home parish or school of many vocations over the years. We are grateful and proud of our young men and women who answer the call. Currently, we have 2 in formation for consecrated life and 4 in formation for the priesthood. Please keep them in your prayers.

At the end of next week, our parish has a weekend celebration of the Eucharist and our patron saint, St. Charles Borromeo, called Eucharistic Days. This takes place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with 40 hours of perpetual Adoration in the main church. There are events, talks, and meals throughout the weekend. Please check it out and see what will work for you to attend.

Congratulations to the 8th grade girls who won the Twin Cities Volleyball Championship early this week in dramatic fashion over at St. Agnes in St. Paul. The 8th grade girls will take on the school staff tomorrow afternoon in a spectacle for the students and a final test for those 8th grade girls! Everyone wins a chuckle at a Friday afternoon student vs. staff game at St. Charles.

God bless your weekend,

Danny

St. Charles School Principal

Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive ~ Starting Nov. 3

The 3rd graders are hosting the 31st Annual St. Charles School Thanksgiving Food Drive that runs Monday, November 3, through Friday, November 21. The donations go to the Missionaries of Charity in Minneapolis and the Franciscan Brothers of Peace in St. Paul.

  • The Brothers need personal hygiene items and any non-perishable foods. They also requested traditional Thanksgiving dinner food items. Canned foods are of a lesser need, but are still appreciated.

  • The Sisters are requesting the following: boxed food, dried beans, white rice, maseca flour, cooking oil, cereal (any), spaghetti noodles & sauce, and any noodles (including ramen). Also appreciated are diapers in sizes 3, 4, and 5, paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex), and personal hygiene products.

  • Special note: Please do not donate anything in glass jars. Thank you!

God bless your generosity to our neighbors in need!

Veteran’s Day is Around the Corner, and We Need Your Help!

Our preschool program is creating a Veterans’ Day display. If someone in your family has served in the military and you would be willing to send in their photo to add to the display, please email pictures to Ms. Carlson at dcarlson@stchbs.org.
All photos will need to be emailed by Wednesday, November 5.
THANK YOU for your help! We can’t wait to honor all those who have bravely served our country.

Prayer Partners Needed

Calling parishioners, parents, and staff to volunteer to pray for our students! This is an opportunity to pray by name for a specific student from November to April as our second and eighth graders prepare to receive their Sacraments this year. A “prayer partner” prays daily for one student (to be assigned) and writes a short monthly note of faithful encouragement to that special person. If you are interested in this amazing ministry, sign up here or email Linda at lmt.weiner@gmail.com with any questions you have. After signing up, you will receive the name of your student along with more details.

 Home & School Volunteer Opportunities

We’re looking for the following volunteer opportunities: Vision screening, Christmas tree set-up, Christmas staff luncheon, and more!  Also, please join us for our first Home and School meeting on Tuesday, October 28th, at 6:30 PM in room 104 at school.
