Student in grades 5-8 use the Accelerated Reader Program. This program is a computerized program that measures comprehension. Students choose books that are at their reading and interest level and read independently. After they finish reading they take a quiz on the computer and earn points. The points vary depending on length and difficulty of book. Each student is given their individual goal that they are expected to reach by the end of the trimester. The goals can be adjusted as needed.
Accelerated Reader has added another component to its program that deals with nonfiction text. Students choose from selected articles that interest them and take a “mini” quiz. They are not given goals or points for these, but will be held accountable for reading the teacher’s assignments.
To find a current list of books available for reading visit: www.arbookfind.com
With the new Accelerated Reader, you can receive emails showing your student’s quiz or test results. To set up your account:
- Visit Renaissance Home Connect and sign in with your child’s username and password.
- After you have logged in, click the email setup link and follow the directions.
Accelerated Reader is a great way for you and your child to keep up on the books they have read and the number of points they have achieved.
